Raison d’être: Urbanicity is an
attitude. It's about caring, connecting, and contributing to our civic well-being. It's about citizenry at the most basic
unit of a neighborhood--and synthesizing all things global.
Cities are the incubators that shape our sensibilities, and, in turn,
thrive on the human capital of our skills, vitality, knowledge, and imagination. They
exist by and for us.
Self-proclaimed urbanites share a mindset: they are informed, concerned,
and vigilant to subversions in the natural and built environment and threats to social equity.
Helen Keller once said "the most pitiable people are those who have sight
but no vision." Agreed. Urbanites look beyond the 'is' to the 'ought' to improve the dynamics and liveability of their cities.
Most Americans live in metropolitan areas but don't enjoy the pleasures
of urban life. Let's ramp up our expectations and live in the cities we want and deserve.
Reality check:
The golden rule meets the global challenge--
resulting in international economic imbalances, hardening chasms in American society, and deadly
struggles abroad against dictatorships. Millions of bloggers protest injustices and yearn for enlightenment.
We join their impatience and outrage.
Yet we step from the fray to contemplate
the strength of human spirit: personal, civic, and global. A transforming compassion can sustain a viable world. It's
daunting to find calm in turmoil, but let's try. Amid the discord, we admire courage, curiosity, and talent. That's what this
site is all about. We try to offer a bit of serenity to unclog minds and sense the beauty of our journey. Welcome.
